What is the 21/90 rule?
What is the 21/90 Rule? The 21 in this rule refers to the role of 21 days in forming a habit and the 90 refers to the time it takes to make it permanent and turn it into a lifestyle. This rule was created by Maxwell Maltz, a plastic surgeon. He realized that his nose surgery patients got used to the new look in 21 days. It has been tested in many other areas and it has been observed that it becomes a habit in 21 days. If you continue for up to 90 days, it becomes your lifestyle.
As an example of the 21/90 rule; when we start smoking and continue for 21 days, it has become a habit. If you have just started driving a car, during the first 20 days, while changing gears, signaling, turning, we do it consciously by thinking, after 21 days and later we start to do it subconsciously and automatically.
If we want to make something a habit, we need to repeat it for 21 days without a break. It takes 21 days to settle in the subconscious. The important thing is not to take a break during these 21 days. Things repeated without a break will become a habit.
Knowing this rule is quite simple. The main thing is to be able to apply it. If you can apply it to your life in a positive way, it will benefit you. For example, if you smoke, do it to quit smoking. Of course, it would be very difficult to last 21 days by directly saying that you don’t smoke. So instead, you can change your focus by adopting a different and good habit.
For example, if you want to lose weight, you can use it for dieting or for sports. The important thing is to take the first step and keep it going for 21 days. After 21 days it will become easier. When you complete 90 days, you have completely injected it into your life. Things will be better for you from then on.
This is the 21 day rule. You can set a goal for it and write it down and take it step by step every day. At the end of 21 days, you will have made progress and gained a habit. If you have something in your head, you should start by making a plan without thinking that you will not succeed.
